The CDC Yellow Book (2026 edition) notes that surgery and air travel each raise the risk of blood clots, and long periods of sitting after surgery add to it. Its specific advice not to fly for 10 days applies to chest and abdominal surgery, so for knee surgery the timing is your surgeon's call. Ask directly when you can fly, whether you need clot prevention for the flight, and whether an aisle seat or upgrade is worth budgeting for a leg in a brace.
The CDC also suggests asking whether follow-up visits cost extra beyond the base price, and bringing home a complete set of records in English. For ACL surgery, that means the operative report, graft type, the brand and size of the fixation devices, and any arthroscopy images. A future surgeon will need them.
